Health Literacy Month Healthy Life Line: Read

Read what you need. Learn about what you need to maintain good health and well-being.  Health literacy is an important part of your self-care health care.  It helps promote better health and quality of life. During this Health Literacy Month make your health healthier with more medical information.

Medical science progresses so rapidly!  It is impossible for health care providers to keep up with all these new developments. Be aware of treatments your doctors and healthcare team have yet to hear about or are unlikely to ever find out about.  The overwhelming amount of new health information that comes out is far too much for many to stay current on every disease and treatment.  This should not stop you the patient from finding out all you can.  The same goes for wellness.  Participating in your health care is mandatory to maintain good health, achieve wellness, and overcome illness.

There are so many different treatments and modalities that compliment traditional medicine.  As many lack training in these areas they are unable to tell the patient.  Asking your doctor is a good starting place as is telling your doctor about the things you have read about or tried that helped.  In turn this may evoke a response by your physician to find out more, and even share with other patients and colleagues who may in turn share their “new” information which your doctor can share with you.

Reading and learning are vital to good health. Health literacy helps you make healthier, informed choices based on facts that have proven to yield better health outcomes.  Be health literate.  Best health!

Be Screen Free to Stay Healthy

Studies how less, if any screen time is a healthy way to live.  Today the little and big screen show more negativity especially negative behaviors that promote poor health.  This is too often accompanied by loud talking, ways to promote conflict, and actual repetition of violent, disturbing video to accompany the loud verbalization of the events.  The repetition in short periods of time spurns negative behavior depicted often accompanied by depression, anxiety, high blood pressure, dementia, and many other chronic conditions.

Educating yourself and learning  about things that interest you is the best way to spend screen time.  Modern technology allows for selection of what you want to watch when you want to watch it without commercials,  Screen time should be filled with positive, educational content.  Even if the story is negative, it should be told with facts and without repetitive negative visuals.  Studies show limited screen time, especially for kids, is healthier mentally, physically, and spiritually.

Healthy life line ideas for screen free living:

Reading For Your Health

Read. Read some more. The good healthy feeling that comes from reading is a natural healer and wellness booster.  Like eating nutritious foods, reading good books enhances your health.  Your body, mind, and spirit reap benefits.  Your body is at one of its most relaxed states of rest when you are reading even for last minute midterms!  Reading is actually one of the best natural stress relievers available.  It nourishes the mind in so many healthy ways.  This in turn nourishes the body and spirit.

Research shows that readers are more likely to have better health and better health outcomes just from reading.  Of course, it only makes sense that reading about basic health and your health concerns contributes to that. Educating yourself through the written word allows you the opportunity to make the best health choices for you.  You can become your own precision medicine specialist!

Make reading a daily exercise throughout the day.  Read different sources of content that interest you.  Find more topics you have little knowledge in and read about them.  The learning and fulfillment gained is enough to increase your pleasure, teach you something, and promote wellness when you read.  Read.  Read some more.  Best health!
